coming home

December 13th, 2014 by

We were met with a wagging tail. He was in his “holding cell” and when he saw me, it was bang bang bang. That gave me a big smile and the reassurance that things were going to be alright. I just wanted to hug him so tight.

I did talk to the vetabout the receptionist but she already knew about it. Apparently, when she got off the phone with me and went straight to Dr. Blankenship and let her know she had screwed up. I think she was a little rattled at the moment and just over-talked. I can accept that. Dr. Blankenship said that there was nothing new to add but that she still suspected cancer. Hopefully we will hear better news when the results come back. If not then we will just move forward from there.

His incision looks amazing! So clean. He came home with no bandage, and it hasn’t drained very much. CAM00071

His fur brother and sisters were very curious about what was going on. His fur sister, Boo, thought that the cone of shame was for her haha.

He kinda had a rough start at home. I think he was in pain and more than a little dopey. After about 4 hours he did drink about a gallon of water, eat a whole can if dog food and venture outside and down a couple steps to go potty. Mama was so proud. He ate again a couple hours later – Quite a bit of the kibble I have been trying to get him to eat.

I’m exhausted.. And Bubba is sleeping again. I can’t believe that it was only 24 hours ago that we were headed to the vets office. I know it’s only going to get better

Now TRY and get some rest yourself, okay? Bubba will still jave some ups and downs, but all that’s normal. And .make sure you remember to eat too!

Whatever the test results show, you and Bubba will deal with it, develop a plan of action and move forward loving and spoiling and living life to the fullest!!!!!!!!!!!

It is amazing that he’s eating already! My Dobe Nitro wouldn’t eat for a week after surgery. We’re 6 months post amp, and he’s doing fabulous. Good luck to continued success.

Bubba looks AWESOME!! Tail wagging and walking around…all good signs.

And the incision site does look good. Don’t get too concerned if it starts bruising some. I think that’s typical and my Leland had some bruising. One thing our surgeon instructed us to do was put warm moist compresses on the incision. It helps aid the skin in healing plus it probably feels pretty good too. We’d wet a dish towel and microwave it for 50-60 seconds. Then hold it against the incision until it cools. We did this 2-3 times a day and the surgeon was impressed on how well the site looked when we took Leland back for the staple removal.

    Hang in there…you’re doing great!

Thank you for that advice.. I will start doing that. Some say ice as well?? I am such a happy camper. Bubba is starting to want to play. He chased a granddaddy long legs around for a few minutes.. Chewing on his chew toys, and he even has hit pit bull wiggle butt!. I’m thinking that it might be pretty hard to keep him settled down tomorrow. There’s a lot to say for puppy exuberance <3
