Happy Birthday to my sweet boy
January 2nd, 2015 by bubbalove
Bubba turned 1 today!! We had a really good day.He got to go for a ride, got some popcorn chicken for lunch, shared my steak at dinner, and had his very own birthday cake (peanut butter and banana) and vanilla ice cream. I tried to get pictures but he would have nothing to do with that. Ever since his amputation, he has been scared of anything new or just not in our regular routine. It really worries me that he has lost his confidence. He has always been a bit timid but nothing like this. I have been giving him lots of extra attention-like going for rides any time I go to town, and taking him to Petco to get his grain-free treats. He took obedience there and did outstanding but that was when he was 3-4 months old. The employees and his trainer remembered him and gave him tons of hugs and kisses. At first he wanted nothing more to get away from them but once they sat on the floor he was giving them lots of kisses and getting his pitbull wiggle on. I think that was a very important thing to realize.. He is afraid of people who tower over him. I am seriously thinking about enrolling him in another obedience class to help with his confidence. Anyways.. I can’t believe he is already a year old. He has been with us since he was 6 weeks old. After he was born, he and his littermates were in a shed with dog food thrown on the floor. It was heartbreaking to say the least. I knew from the moment I picked him up he was coming home with me. He was the best puppy ever. He was housebroken in no time and such a little love..still is

CUTENESS ALERT!!!! YOU FORGOT THE CUTENESS ALERT!!!!!
ADORABLE!!!!!! What an adorable fella’!!!!!
Yeah, you’ve really got the right idea about how to rebuild his confidence! You’re doing great with it! And people should not be approaching dogs until they show they are ready…and yes, sitting down on the floor is a perfect way for that to happen! He’ll be okay!
And WOW! What a great birthday!!!!!!! Terrific birthday dinner!!!
He hit the puppy y lottery with you, that’s for sure!!!
Thanks for sharing these precious photos and beautiful love story!!

Yo! Bubba! We just got caught up on your blog–don’t know how we missed it before 🙂
Happy Hippy Hoppy Birthday dude! Sounds like you partied in style! You are sure one lucky pup to have landed with the family you did!
I bet as you become used to life on three legs your confidence will build. Another obedience class would probably do wonders as well. Do they have other classes? We have a low confidence dawg in our pack. Its so funny because he is the biggest one of all of us! Anyway, he has been to lots of classes and they really help. He even passed his Canine Good Citizen test! Your mama’s definitely got all the right ideas, taking you everywhere with her and exposing you to new things will help too.
Anywhoo, gotta go get this party started so we can celebrate your most pawesome 1st birthday with you!

Thank you so much for all the wonderfully kind words. This is the best community EVER. Mama and I talked it over and we are going to wait just a little while longer to start more classes. I just think that I might get a little overwhelmed and confused and it might hurt my confidence rather than help it. I got my Good Citizen certificate when i was 4 months old after completing the puppy course. My friend ,Rachael, said my mama had done a wonderful job training me because I already knew my basic commands so she taught me some stuff the big dogs were doing. Boy, was I proud. Rachael got lots of kisses because she told me i was the smartest puppy EVER. Mama says that when I am ready, she will let me learn more stuff from Rachael. I CAN’T WAIT! I love her!! She would bring her big dog that looked just like me ( except she was a girl). Her name was Jellybean and i loved her more than she loved me. I think I annoyed her because I always wanted her to play with me. Maybe she will like more now that I’m all growed up!
