Heartbroken

December 12th, 2014 by

Today was so heartbreaking. Bubba was so worried when we left him. Now we are just sitting and waiting. I called to check on him and the surgery was done and he was awake but the surgery was later than expected so we can’t pick him up until 5. The receptionist irritated me. She told me that the Doc said it looked like cancer. She says a lot of things though. I’ve been in there and listened to her say things that I don’t believe she has any business saying anything medical to pawrents. It’s really not comforting or credible at that point and I want to hear it from the doc. So now I’m sitting here scared to death that what she said is true. I don’t know if they take the whole leg in one piece or if in a couple. It sounds morbid to wonder that but I was wondering because if it was only in 1 whole piece, how can you tell from looking at the cut at the shoulder. They are supposed to send it in to be tested

Ok, I understand you being very upset about what you were told by the receptionist. Breathe. You do not know for sure that it is. Talk to the vet and also mention what was told to you over the phone. Not proper to have been done. One day she will say the wrong thing and not know what she is talking about. They need to stop that right away

If by chance it is cancer you will deal with that when the time comes but for now worry about the recovery period. 🙂 And give Bubba snuggles

As far as the surgery goes I never wanted to know that kind of detail of how they did it. I wanted just to have my baby home safe with me. You can always ask your vet the details I am sure they will answer any questions for you. You can’t tell from the incision.

Hi Michelle.. I’ve always been the kind of person who wants to know how things are done and why. It’s been so frustrating for me since my brain injury. I have to really study things hard to comprehend them almost to the point of obsession lol.

I am really going to start focusing on one day at a time and no matter what, cherish my time with Bubba. I have all of you to thank for making me see the importance of that 🙂

People say the dumbest things. Bubba is out of surgery and that is a great thing so when you pick him up smile and plan on a long future together no matter what ANYONE says. Good luck.

Thanks Penny. I did discuss it with the vet, and apparently the receptionist knew she had made a mistake and told her what she had said, herself. I think she was was just really busy and stressed and spoke without thinking. True, my vet did say that she still suspected cancer… But there were no new indications, so it’s the same as before. We won’t know anything until the results come back. No matter what the results are, I am going to learn to take things one day at a time

Believe me we’ve all been where you’re at with the worry over our furbaby in surgery. I cried when the tech and surgeon came and took Leland back and I had to try finish filling out paperwork with tears running down my face. Just know that right now Bubba is feeling no pain with all the pain meds that he’s been administered and others say he’s probably watching pink elephants.

I agree with your agitation with the receptionist. It’s not her place to give medical opinion. I definitely would not put stock in what she tells you. I’d wait to hear it from the doctor him/herself.

Just hang in there and know that this community is behind you and Bubba and we’re rooting sweet Bubba on!!

Okay, I know from your post in the forums that Bubba is home and slowly…but surely…recovering!!

Yeah, so much “miscommunication” that is not credible can take place among staff and then incorrectly converyed to the “client”. You are right. Any discussion regarding Bubba’s condition should be coming from the Vet.

I’m confused…did Bubba spend the night after amputation or no? Most dogs do spend the night. If Bubba came home the same day of surgery….yeah….thate a little rough…more so for you than him!

Take care of yourself! You’re doing great!

    Hugs to you!

I’m sorry… I’m still getting used the the blog and didn’t see that anyone had posted a comment.

Yeah.. Bubba came home the same day. He had his surgery around 1 pm and we picked him up at 5. They had already had him up and moving around. Amazing! It was rough for the first 4 or 5 hours at home. He was doing some really goofy things- almost falling asleep standing up and leaning on me.. Poor guy.

I think now he is doing fantastic. He has eaten really good, drank tons of water, and has been outside to potty twice.. And that involves a couple of steps. He did great.
